Two Terrorists Killed in Encounter In Kulgam

Srinagar/Hyderabad, August 2, 2025 (Maxim News): In a major success for security forces, two terrorists were gunned down in an intense overnight encounter in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The encounter began late Friday night after security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the region. As the troops zeroed in, the hidden terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce gunfight that continued into the early hours of Saturday.

Swift Action by Security Forces

The operation was conducted by a joint team comprising personnel from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF. The forces maintained a tight perimeter throughout the night to prevent the escape of the terrorists

“Two terrorists were neutralized during the encounter. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the site,” said an official from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The identities and affiliations of the slain terrorists are being verified. A detailed search operation is currently underway to ensure no more threats remain in the area.

Heightened Vigilance in South Kashmir

Security agencies have stepped up vigilance in South Kashmir over the past few weeks amid reports of increased militant movement across the region. This operation is part of a broader counter-terrorism strategy aimed at ensuring peace and stability ahead of upcoming national and local events.

Locals in the area were urged to stay indoors during the night as a precautionary measure, and there were no civilian casualties reported.

Continued Efforts to Root Out Militancy

The latest encounter highlights the continued efforts of Indian security forces to combat terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in volatile zones like Kulgam, Pulwama, and Anantnag. Regular intelligence-led operations have helped neutralize multiple threats over the past few months, with this encounter marking another step toward maintaining regional security.
