Hyderabad Rotary Club | Hyderabad, Oct. 20: The Rotary Club of One Hyderabad (RC1H) has become the world’s second 100% Paul Harris Society Rotary Club, marking a milestone for Hyderabad’s Rotary community.
The newly chartered club achieved the distinction on its Charter Day during a ceremony held at The Leela in Banjara Hills this weekend. It follows its sponsor club, the Rotary Club of Lake District, which was the first to achieve the distinction.
According to the organisers, the milestone comes among approximately 36,500 Rotary clubs worldwide, including 4,800 in India. RC1H has 27 members and contributed US$61,000 to The Rotary Foundation.
Hyderabad Rotary Club Prioritises Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
A 100% Paul Harris Society club is one in which every member commits to contributing US$1,000 annually to The Rotary Foundation. The organisers said both the first and second clubs to achieve this distinction are based in Hyderabad.
At the charter ceremony, three cheques worth US$10,000, US$25,000 and US$26,000 were presented to the foundation. The contributions will support Rotary’s humanitarian initiatives.
Rotary International District 3150 Governor Uday Pilani highlighted the role of fellowship and community service in Rotary’s work. He described the achievement of two Paul Harris Society clubs in the district as a matter of pride.
Newly installed RC1H President Neeraj Goenka said he aims to strengthen emotional connections among members, encourage intellectual growth and create meaningful opportunities for service. He also highlighted the club’s commitment to diversity, noting that 11 of its 27 members are women.
The club has identified water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as its main priority for the first two years. It plans to support initiatives that improve public health, promote safe water access and encourage better hygiene practices.
The ceremony also featured a panel discussion titled “Sanitation: A Super Vaccine”, bringing together government officials, development-sector representatives and industry leaders.
The Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary International, supports humanitarian projects worldwide. Its PolioPlus programme and partnerships with organisations including UNICEF and the Gates Foundation have contributed to global polio eradication efforts.
