India’s Economic Rise is Unstoppable: Modi

Speaking at the ceremony where ₹20,000 crore was released to over 9.7 crore farmers under the PM-Kisan scheme, PM Modi emphasized that despite global disruptions, India’s economy is growing with strength and stability

“The Indian economy is strong, stable, and surging ahead. In the face of global economic turmoil, we are taking firm steps to protect national interests,” Modi said, in what was seen as a veiled response to Trump’s latest jibe.

Trump Sparks Row With Harsh Comments

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, in a separate media interaction, sparked global controversy by labeling India and Russia as “dead economies.” Citing India’s continued oil and defense trade with Russia, Trump accused the two nations of further sinking their economies

“India imposes some of the highest tariffs in the world. Despite being our friend, we hardly do any business with them. Meanwhile, they continue trading with Russia while the world calls for an end to the war in Ukraine,” Trump stated.

His remarks drew sharp criticism and triggered a political debate in India.

Opposition Reactions and Internal Disagreement

The Congress party was quick to seize the moment. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Indian economy is already in ruins under the Modi government and said the international perception of India’s economic health reflects domestic failures.

However, this view wasn’t universally accepted within the opposition itself. Congress senior leaders Rajeev Shukla and Shashi Tharoor distanced themselves from Rahul Gandhi’s comments, calling for constructive economic dialogue rather than political mudslinging.

Call for Unity and Support for ‘Swadeshi’

PM Modi urged all political parties to rise above differences and work together in the interest of the nation’s economic progress.

“Let us pass a resolution in Parliament to support ‘Swadeshi’ (indigenous) products and industries. In this era of global self-interest, India must stand united to protect its economy and people,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s remarks appeared aimed at building consensus on economic nationalism and countering external pressures with domestic resilience.
