Hyderabad: Tension At Secretariat After BJP Leaders Staged Protest
Hyderabad, Aug 22 (Maxim News): Tension prevailed at the Secretariat here on Friday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders tried to barge into the premises as part of their “Save Hyderabad” protest.
The BJP city leaders launched the “Save Hyderabad” campaign to protest against the Congress government’s failure to address the civic issues in the city.
After the death of five persons due to electrocution at Ramanthapur last week, overflowing sewer lines, poor road conditions, and atrocities against women and a firing incident at a jewellery showroom, the opposition parties charged that the Congress government had failed to ensure the safety of the citizens.
Apart from flooding of roads due to rains, sewer lines were overflowing at many places across the city. The roads were damaged and taken over by potholes.
In protest against the Congress government’s failures, the BJP leaders wanted to lay siege to the Secretariat. However, many corporators and senior leaders were placed under house arrest and those few who managed to reach the Secretariat were prevented by the police from entering the premises through the main gate.
Heated arguments took place between the police and BJP leaders and ruckus prevailed for a while at the Secretariat. The police took a few leaders into custody. (Maxim News)
