CBI Director In Hyderabad: Investigation Begins Against Kaleshwaram
Hyderabad, Sept 5 (Maxim News): It is known that CM Revanth recently announced that the Kaleshwaram project case is being handed over to the CBI. It is against this backdrop that a key development has taken place. Recently, CBI Director Praveen Sood came to Hyderabad, met with the officials at the CBI office. In short, the Kaleshwaram project case has now come under the purview of the central government. Already, the state’s Special Chief Secretary to the Home Ministry, Ravigupta, has sent a notification to the CBI Director and the Central Home Ministry on September 1. However, the recent arrival of Praveen Sood has gained significance.
In a letter sent to the Centre by the Telangana government, it has sought a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram report submitted by Justice Chandra Ghose Commission based on the NDSA report. It has proposed an inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Corporation and inter-state issues. It has been stated that the NDSA report has stated that there was massive corruption in Kaleshwaram and that the failures in the construction were due to design, quality and other shortcomings in the projects. The Telangana government has also sought an inquiry into the contractors, officials and private companies, including public representatives, in connection with this project.
However, the High Court has asked the state government not to take action against the petitioners (KCR and Harish Rao) based on the report of Justice Chandra Ghose, who conducted an inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project. It has said that Justice Ghose’s report should not be handed over to the CBI. It has clarified that the National Dam Safety Authority (NSDA) and other reports can be relied upon.
CBI Director Praveen Sood is a 1986 batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. He is currently serving as the Director General and Inspector General of Police of Karnataka. He was appointed as the new Director of CBI on May 25, 2023. He will continue in this post for another two years. However, Praveen Sood also served as a police advisor to the government of Mauritius in 1999 for three years. After that, he came to India. He has held other positions including the Commissioner of Police of Mysore and Commissioner of Police of Bangalore. (Maxim News)
