High Court | Hyderabad, Sept. 11: The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to appoint a full-time Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or an in-charge officer to the Telangana State Waqf Board here on Thursday.
The order was passed by Justice Nagesh Bheempaka in an interim ruling while hearing a writ petition filed by one Mohammed Abdul Khaliq.
The court emphasized that the post of CEO cannot remain vacant and instructed the government to make immediate arrangements by either appointing a full-time officer or designating an in-charge until further orders.

The interim order comes at a time when the functioning of the Waqf Board has been under close scrutiny over administrative and legal challenges, In this case, Advocate Laraib Abu Touf appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
It is known that previously, Justice Nagesh Bheempaka, after hearing the submissions, also directed the government to remove the CEO Mohd Asadullah, through his interim orders under Waqf Amendment Act 2025, which is under judicial scrutiny before the Apex Court.
This development adds to the ongoing series of legal interventions surrounding appointments and administration in the Waqf Board.
The directive is significant as the Waqf Board plays a central role in managing endowment properties and minority welfare initiatives in Telangana.
With the court’s latest intervention, the state government will now have to act promptly in appointing suitable leadership to ensure that the board’s activities continue without disruption.
The matter is expected to come up again for detailed hearing, but for now, the interim order mandates immediate compliance by the state authorities.
Meanwhile, the main write appeal of CEO Asadullah is pending for verdict in High Court.
