H-1B Visa Fee Hike: Revanth Reddy Urges PM Modi, EAM Jaishankar to Intervene

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has strongly opposed US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a steep hike in H-1B visa fees, warning that the move would cause “unimaginable suffering” for thousands of Telugu IT professionals working in the United States.

In a post on X late Saturday, Reddy described the announcement as a “shocker” and “totally unacceptable in the historical context of Indo-American relations.” He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to take up the matter with the US administration on a priority basis.

“The suffering for our Telugu techies will be unimaginable. I request Hon’ble Prime Minister and EAM Shri @DrSJaishankar to resolve this issue on a war footing,” Reddy wrote.

He urged the Union Government to immediately establish a mechanism to address the crisis in order to safeguard the interests of Indian skilled workers, particularly from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, who have made significant contributions to America’s technology sector.

President Trump on Friday signed a proclamation titled “Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers,” which raises the annual H-1B visa fee to an unprecedented USD 100,000. The White House defended the move by citing alleged abuse of the visa program, calling it a “national security threat.”

The decision has sparked widespread concern in India, where the IT industry relies heavily on the H-1B visa program. Industry leaders and policymakers fear the measure could drastically impact Indian professionals and affect the overall strength of Indo-US economic ties.
