The proceedings, scheduled for today, are being closely watched as the outcome may influence the political landscape in the state.
MLAs Disqualification Petitions: Four MLAs Face Hearing
The four legislators facing the proceedings are T. Prakash Goud, Kale Yadaiah, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, and Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy.
According to the schedule, the hearings will be conducted in four sessions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The process will include cross-examinations of both the petitioners and respondents.
As part of the hearing, the petitioners in the case are BRS MLAs Kalvakuntla Sanjay, Chinta Prabhakar and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy who will face a cross-examination by the respondent’s counsel (defected MLAs). The move is being seen as a crucial step in determining whether the MLAs will retain their Assembly membership.
Restrictions Imposed on Assembly Premises
Authorities have imposed restrictions on the Assembly premises beginning today, which will continue until October 6. This measure comes in the wake of heightened attention on the Speaker’s proceedings and the possible political implications of his decision. A mobile phone ban has been enforced in the court hall.
The developments follow the Supreme Court’s directive to the Speaker to act on the defection petitions without further delay. With this judicial push, the Assembly leadership has been compelled to address the issue directly.
There is widespread anticipation surrounding Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s final decision. Political observers believe the verdict could set an important precedent for handling defection cases in Telangana.
