Local Body Election Schedule | Hyderabad, September 29: The stage is set for the announcement of the local body election schedule in Telangana.
After days of preparation, the State Election Commission (SEC) is expected to release the schedule today, with officials indicating that no legal hurdles remain following the High Court’s recent stance.

According to sources, the State Election Commission has called a key meeting at 11 a.m. on Monday to finalize the notification.
The Panchayati Raj Department has already submitted the gazette on reservations for SC, ST, BC, and women for the posts of Zilla Parishad (ZP) chairpersons.
The reservations were finalized late Saturday night and forwarded to the Directorate.
Senior officials compiled the gazettes from all districts covering ZP chairpersons, ward members, gram panchayats, Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC), Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC), and Mandal Parishad presidents. These documents were then submitted to the Election Commission.
State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini later held a detailed review meeting with officials. Legal experts were also consulted to ensure that the notification could be issued without delay.
Officials noted that since the High Court has not granted a stay, there is no barrier to releasing the schedule.
Complaints on Reservations Reviewed
Meanwhile, the process has not been free of controversy. Complaints from several districts alleged discrepancies in the reservations for wards, sarpanches, MPTC, ZPTC, and MPP seats. Concerns were raised about the lack of population-based allocations and inconsistencies in some districts.
In response, senior officials from the Panchayati Raj Department directed district collectors to review these issues urgently. By Sunday night, reviews were conducted in several districts and feedback was sent to the state headquarters. Officials stressed that corrective measures would be taken where necessary to ensure fair representation.
With the government machinery on full alert and the SEC leaning towards issuing the notification, anticipation is building across Telangana. The formal announcement of the local body election schedule is now awaited.
