Private Colleges In Telangana Plan Strike Over Fee Reimbursement Dues
Hyderabad, Oct 1 (Maxim News) : Private colleges in Telangana are preparing to go on strike over the non-payment of fee reimbursement arrears, a long-pending issue that has placed institutions under severe financial strain.
An emergency meeting of college management was convened today, where the next course of action was discussed in detail.
After the meeting, FATHI Chairman Ramesh addressed the media and strongly criticized the government for neglecting the education sector. “The government has not released the fee reimbursement arrears. The education sector is the last priority for the government,” he said.
Ramesh pointed out that Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka had assured that ₹600 crore would be released on the 21st and 22nd of last month. However, the colleges received only ₹200 crore. He added that the government had promised to release ₹1,200 crore by Diwali but questioned the credibility of such commitments.
“How will they give it?” Ramesh asked, expressing doubts about the state’s willingness to resolve the arrears issue. He stressed that if the pending dues are not cleared by October 12, private colleges across Telangana will begin a strike from October 13.
The FATHI chairman also said that from now onwards, discussions would only be held with the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and not with any other department. He warned that if the situation persists, college managements will launch a “Chalo Hyderabad” protest, joined by students, to press their demands.
The strike threat has raised concerns among students, parents, and staff, as private colleges play a crucial role in Telangana’s higher education system. With fee reimbursement arrears remaining unsettled, the standoff between college managements and the government appears set to escalate in the coming days. (Maxim News)
