Hyderabad, Oct 13 (Maxim News) : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Monday launched a blistering attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of “auctioning the future of Telangana” by recklessly pushing the state into mounting debt through large-scale borrowings.
His remarks came in response to the Reserve Bank of India’s Indicative Calendar of Market Borrowings, which revealed that the Telangana government plans to raise ₹9,000 crore by selling state government securities in the open market during the October–December quarter. As per the RBI schedule, the state is expected to raise ₹2,000 crore each in October and November, and ₹5,000 crore in December.
Dr Sravan, taking to social media platform X, said the Congress regime is “not building Telangana but selling it off piece by piece.” He alleged that the government is focused more on short-term cash flows than long-term development and accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of turning the state into a “debt-ridden entity”.
“Instead of attracting investors or creating jobs, this government is busy selling the State’s future – ₹6,000 crore last month, now another ₹9,000 crore. No wealth creation, no development. Only debt, drama, destruction and deception,” Dr Sravan posted.
According to official data, the state government had already raised ₹15,500 crore in the previous month through bonds. As of 31 August 2025, Telangana’s total borrowings stood at ₹33,415.15 crore, which is nearly 62% of the borrowing limit of ₹54,000 crore projected for the current financial year.
Despite projecting a revenue surplus of ₹2,738.33 crore in the 2025-26 Budget, the state reported a revenue deficit of ₹11,051.95 crore by the end of July. The fiscal deficit for the year has been targeted at ₹54,009.74 crore, out of which over ₹33,000 crore has already been reached within the first five months.
Critics say these figures paint a worrying picture of fiscal mismanagement and raise questions over the government’s ability to manage public finances responsibly.
Dr Sravan said Telangana needs “visionary statesmen, not irresponsible salesmen” who mortgage the state’s economic future for political survival. “People gave the Congress a mandate for progress, but what they’re getting instead is propaganda and panic. This government is running on loans, not leadership,” he said.
The BRS leader warned that such aggressive borrowing, without visible signs of productive capital investment or employment generation, could leave the state in a prolonged financial crisis. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government is indulging in fiscal gimmickry while failing to address core issues like industrial growth, infrastructure development, and welfare implementation.
