BC Bandh Impact: Public Faces Hardship As Private Drivers Exploit Passengers
Hyderabad, Oct 18: The state-wide bandh called by the BC JAC demanding fair reservations continued across Telangana. From early morning, BC associations staged protests in front of RTC depots in all districts, blocking buses from leaving the depots.
In Hyderabad, RTC bus services came to a complete halt, leaving passengers and office-goers stranded. Taking advantage of the situation, private cab and auto drivers reportedly hiked fares, charging exorbitant rates.
Employees in essential services, who relied on private transport to reach workplaces, were shocked at the inflated fares. At Uppal Ring Road, cab drivers were reportedly charging double the usual amount — fares from Uppal to Hanamkonda that typically cost ₹300 soared to ₹700 due to the bandh.
With RTC’s free travel scheme keeping many autos idle in recent weeks, the sudden surge in passenger demand during the bandh pushed private transport into overdrive — but at a steep price for commuters.
