Uttam Kumar Reddy launches two-day Mega Job Mela in Huzurnagar

  • Over 40,000 youth and 275 companies take part in Telangana’s largest rural job fair.

Huzurnagar, October 25: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N. Uttam Kumar Reddy inaugurated the two-day Mega Job Mela in Huzurnagar on Saturday, calling it the largest employment event ever organised in a rural part of Telangana.

Addressing thousands of job seekers, he said the fair had drawn an unprecedented response, with over 40,000 youth registering online and more than 275 companies from local, national, and international sectors participating. The mela was organised with the support of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the Digital Employment Exchange of Telangana (DEET) under the Industries Department.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, who has been elected six times as MLA and once as MP, said he had served as a minister in the undivided Andhra Pradesh and was now serving again in Telangana with a focus on addressing unemployment. “One of my personal observations is that rural youth still do not have sufficient employment opportunities. Even educated youth from villages and remote areas struggle more than their urban counterparts because of weaker exposure and limited access to English-medium education,” he said.

He added that this gap particularly affected youth from middle-class and economically weaker backgrounds, especially among Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and minorities. “I have dedicated over 30 years to public life and have witnessed change in irrigation, roads, schools, and the education system. But in employment, especially in rural areas, much remains to be done,” he said.

The minister said the Huzurnagar job fair was conceptualised after consultations with Congress leaders from Huzurnagar and Kodad constituencies, who had highlighted the need for rural job creation. “We decided to bring reputed companies from across Telangana and India to Huzurnagar to directly recruit rural youth,” he said.

Interviews began in the morning, and by the time of the inauguration, 250 candidates had already received offer letters. “Several more will receive offer letters today and tomorrow,” he said, adding that the mela had been extended for a second day due to the overwhelming turnout.

Uttam revealed that he personally reached out to companies in sectors including cement, pharmaceuticals, IT, manufacturing, and construction, convincing them to participate. “I spoke to representatives of nearly 275 companies across the four districts of erstwhile Nalgonda. I told them that if our youth lacked certain skill standards, we would arrange training and help them become employable. We are not only creating jobs but also ensuring skill linkage,” he said.

He stated that this was the first time such a massive recruitment event had been held in a rural area of Telangana. “Hundreds of top companies from Hyderabad and other regions have come forward to interview 40,000 candidates. Some youth have even travelled about 300 km from interior places to appear for interviews. It shows their determination,” he said.

The minister emphasised that the Congress government was determined to solve unemployment, a core issue behind the Telangana statehood movement. “Since coming to power 22 months ago, our government has provided between 70,000 and 75,000 government jobs. Last week, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka distributed appointment letters to Group-I, Group-II, and surveyor recruits. We are filling government jobs and at the same time promoting private-sector employment through initiatives like this,” he said.

He also said the process of recruitment would continue beyond the mela. “In the next month, we will follow up with the participating companies to track how many candidates have been hired, trained, or placed. We will monitor even the stipend-based trainees to ensure continuity,” he said.

To facilitate candidates, the organisers made elaborate arrangements including waiting areas and free food for 50,000 to 60,000 participants—breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and tea. Uttam requested Congress workers and supporters to vacate the main venue after the inauguration to allow more space for the job seekers.

He extended his appreciation to district officials, including the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and other officers from Singareni, DEET and other departments and Congress leaders for their cooperation. He also thanked the media for their extensive coverage, urging them to highlight the positive aspects of the event.

“Never before has a job mela of this magnitude been organised outside Hyderabad. This is a matter of pride for Telangana and a reflection of confidence in our youth,” Uttam said. “Our goal is to provide employment to every deserving person, whether through government appointments or private recruitment. This event is a beginning towards that mission,” he added.
