- Police warn of fog risks as Khammam accident kills three youths
- Road safety highlighted after car hits divider in dense fog
Three people died on the spot after a speeding car hit a road divider in Khammam district on Wednesday. The accident took place at Ambedkar Colony near Kishtaram in Sathupally mandal. Two others suffered serious injuries, leading to fresh concerns about road safety in foggy weather across the region.
According to the police, the car was travelling from VM Banjar to Sathupally when the driver lost control and rammed into the divider. The impact was strong enough to reduce the vehicle to rubble. Officials said that poor visibility might have contributed to the crash, as dense fog had been reported in several areas. The sudden loss of visibility may have left the driver with little time to react, leading to the fatal collision.
The deceased were identified as Siddesi Jay, aged 18, and Marsakatla Shashi, aged 11, both from Kompally Colony in Sathupalli. The third victim, Sajid, aged 25, was a resident of Mahabubnagar in Chandrugonda mandal of Kothagudem district. Meanwhile, the two injured youths, Talari Ajay and Imran, were shifted to the local government hospital by Sathupalli Inspector Srihari and his staff. They also informed the victims’ families. Kallur ACP Vasundhara Yadav said that an investigation into the accident is underway.
Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt issued a statement urging commuters to avoid travel during the early hours when the roads are covered with dense fog. He said, “It would be dangerous to drive vehicles in foggy conditions and one should avoid travel in such conditions unless it is an emergency.” He added that minor negligence can lead to major accidents, especially when fog reduces the ability to notice oncoming motorists and pedestrians.
The Commissioner advised motorists not to drive too fast and to check the condition of their vehicles before starting their journey. He also appealed to the public to avoid unsafe practices such as talking on the phone while driving, overtaking carelessly, and violating traffic rules. The tragic Khammam accident has once again highlighted the dangers of early morning travel in fog-covered areas, prompting calls for more caution on the roads.
