A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the NIA custody of Jasir Bilal Wani, a key accused in the Red Fort blast case, by seven days. The extension came after Wani was produced before the court as his earlier seven day custody, granted by Principal Sessions and District Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna on November 27, reached its final day. The court reviewed the case records before announcing the extended custody period.

Wani is a resident of Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The NIA arrested him in Srinagar on November 17. According to the agency, he allegedly provided technical support for carrying out attacks. Officials said he was involved in modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly November 10 car blast that killed 13 people near Red Fort in Delhi. The agency said this technical role made him a crucial link in the investigation. However, the exact nature of his involvement will be examined further during the extended custody.

Meanwhile, the NIA told the court that the investigation still needs more time. Officers said they must analyze the technical devices seized during the arrest. They also need to verify the communication records linked to the accused. Therefore, the agency argued that additional custody was essential to gather all information. The court accepted the request and allowed the extension.

So far, the NIA has arrested seven people in the case. Officials said the blast is linked to a “white-collar” terror module that the Jammu and Kashmir Police had earlier busted. The NIA is now working to identify every layer of the module. The agency aims to trace how the accused coordinated their activities. Later, officials may also examine if international connections played any part. For now, investigators continue to question Wani to build a clearer picture of the events that led to the November 10 blast. Further updates will depend on the progress made during this extended custody period.
