According to the input, the arrested policeman is identified as Kumar. He worked as a driver at the Mehdipatnam police station. A few days earlier, a man had approached the police with a complaint stating that offenders had knocked away his mobile phone, valued at around Rs. 1.75 lakh, at the Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazaar located beside the police station. The police reviewed closed circuit camera footage and managed to catch the thief. They also recovered the mobile phone from him after the arrest.

However, investigators later found that Kumar was aware of the recovery and took the phone from the drawer of a table inside the police station. When the owner returned to take back the recovered device, the police checked for it and found it missing. This raised suspicion among officials, who then initiated an internal inquiry to find out what happened to the recovered gadget.

During the investigation, officials confirmed that the policeman had taken the phone. The findings led to the registration of a case against him, followed by his arrest. He was later remanded. The incident has raised concern over internal misconduct at the station and prompted officials to examine how recovered property is handled.

The case also highlights the role of CCTV footage in solving the original theft and how the same incident exposed wrongdoing within the police station. The police have not shared further details about additional action but confirmed that the inquiry led directly to the arrest of the policeman involved.
