Hyderabad: Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has announced that he will organise a major Quran recital event in February with the participation of one lakh people. He made the announcement a day after laying the foundation for a mosque modelled on the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district.
Kabir said the event will be held in Rejinagar in Murshidabad. He also said he will host a feast for all participants. “I will organise a recital of the holy Quran by one lakh people in February,” he told reporters. He added that the construction of the Babri Masjid model will begin after the February programme.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, the Sanatan Sanskriti Sansad, a collective of monks and spiritual leaders from several monasteries and Hindu institutions, organised a large Gita chanting programme. They conducted the ‘Panch Lakkho Konthe Gita Path,’ which they described as Gita recitation by five lakh voices. The event took place at the Brigade Parade Ground.
Kabir laid the foundation stone for the proposed mosque model on December 6, which is the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. This development comes at a politically sensitive time in West Bengal, with assembly elections expected next year. His announcement and the timing of the foundation event have drawn attention amid ongoing political and social tensions in the state.
The two events, held by different groups, highlight the charged atmosphere in the region where religious activities are gaining visibility ahead of the upcoming polls. Kabir, who remains suspended from the Trinamool Congress, continues to draw public focus through his statements and plans related to the mosque project.
