Congress Wins Counting In Telangana Second Phase

The Congress wins counting narrative strengthened further as results from the second phase of local body elections in Telangana continued to emerge. Counting is currently underway for village panchayat elections held across several mandals in the state. Polling was conducted for 3,911 village panchayat sarpanch posts and 29,917 ward member positions across 193 mandals. According to results declared till 8 pm, Congress backed candidates secured a clear lead in the second phase of counting.

As per the announced figures, Congress backed sarpanch candidates won more than 1,705 seats. Meanwhile, BRS backed candidates won over 889 seats, while the BJP secured 197 seats. Other candidates collectively won more than 475 seats. These figures underline that the Congress wins counting trend remains strong during this phase of the election process.

Earlier, in the first phase of counting, Congress backed candidates had already shown dominance. In that phase, 2,334 Congress backed candidates won as sarpanches across 4,236 villages. In comparison, BRS secured 1,169 sarpanch posts, BJP won 189, and others accounted for 538 seats. Therefore, the cumulative results across both phases indicate a consistent performance by Congress backed candidates.

The Congress wins counting story also includes several closely fought contests decided by narrow margins. In Nalgonda district, a BRS backed candidate, Ramesh Nayak, won the sarpanch post in Ganeshpadu of Damaracharla mandal by a single vote, defeating a Congress supporter. In the same district, Kalluri Anitha won as sarpanch of Ikusa Bavigudem, also by a single vote. These results highlight the intense competition at the village level.

Meanwhile, in Ranga Reddy district, Chevella mandal witnessed another tight contest. Gundalal, a candidate named Buchi Reddy, won the sarpanch post by a single vote. He defeated BRS supporter Kant Reddy by the narrowest possible margin. Also in the district, Congress supporter Rama Devi won as sarpanch of Vikarabad Rampur by a single vote, further reinforcing how closely contested many seats were.

Similar scenes played out in other districts as well. In Karimnagar, a candidate named Venkatesh won as sarpanch of Ambalpur by a single vote. Later, in Warangal district, Sangem mandal’s Ashalapelli village saw Kongara Mallamma win the sarpanch post with a single vote majority. Therefore, while the Congress wins counting overall, several results were decided by razor thin margins, reflecting strong local level contests.
