  • GHMC ward division petition submitted to Commissioner

The GHMC ward division has triggered strong objections from BRS MLAs, who alleged that the recent division of wards was done in an unscientific manner. They appealed to the authorities to reconsider the exercise and submitted a memorandum to the GHMC Commissioner raising their concerns. The leaders said the process ignored rules and public opinion, therefore creating serious administrative issues.

BRS MLAs met the GHMC Commissioner on December 15 and urged officials to review the GHMC ward division. They said the exercise lacked transparency and violated basic principles of public administration. Speaking on the occasion, MLC Dasoju Sravan criticised the approach taken by the authorities. He said, “They are talking nonsense about public administration. They said that the wards have been increased at will.” He alleged that the government failed to follow a systematic method.

Meanwhile, Dasoju Sravan accused the Congress of trying to weaken the BRS due to its lack of control in the GHMC. He warned that the party would move court if the GHMC ward division did not follow constitutional norms. He stressed that the division must be done strictly according to rules. He also said the opinions of elected representatives should be taken into account before finalising such decisions.

Sanathnagar MLA and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav also expressed strong anger over the GHMC ward division. He said the wards were formed arbitrarily without consulting the public. He stated that officials created 300 divisions while sitting in offices. He questioned the urgency shown by the government in pushing through the exercise. He added that the issue would be discussed in the council meeting scheduled for tomorrow. He also pointed out that there are no officers even for the existing 150 divisions. Therefore, he questioned how additional wards could function. He further expressed anger that Congress leaders were politicising the issue of flexi boards.

Former minister Chamakura Mallareddy also criticised the GHMC ward division. He recalled that Medchal was entirely rural in the past. He expressed regret that areas with a large population were reduced to just 16 people in representation. He said earlier there were seven municipalities and three corporations, but now only 16 corporations were created. He questioned how Keesara could be compared with Banjara Hills under the present division.

Later, BRS leaders reiterated that the GHMC ward division must follow rules and reflect ground realities. They maintained that arbitrary decisions would harm public administration and governance.
