Delhi Agra Expressway Accident Death Toll Rises To 13 People

The death toll in the Delhi Agra Expressway accident in Mathura rose to 13 on Tuesday, officials said. The figure increased from four reported earlier. The accident took place on Tuesday morning and involved multiple vehicles amid dense fog conditions.

According to officials, seven buses and three cars collided on the Delhi Agra Expressway due to poor visibility. Thick fog covered the area during the early hours, which led to a massive pile up. As a result, several vehicles crashed into each other, causing chaos and panic at the scene.

Meanwhile, after the collision, several vehicles caught fire. Passengers trapped inside the vehicles faced a tense situation. Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh confirmed that eight buses, including a state run bus, were completely charred. He also stated that two cars were burned in the fire following the crash.

“A total of 70 people were injured in this incident and have been admitted to different hospitals. Two of the injured have been referred to Agra Medical College for advanced treatment. The entire medical team has completed the examination. Here at the mortuary, we received information about the deaths of 13 people,” he told the reporters.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar had said that four people lost their lives while 25 others were injured. However, later updates from officials confirmed a higher death toll as more information emerged.

Also, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the road accident. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs to the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 to the injured, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The incident came a day after another multi vehicle crash linked to dense fog. That accident occurred on the Delhi Mumbai Expressway early Monday morning. It involved around 20 vehicles and highlighted concerns over road safety during winter fog conditions.
