Cold wave in Telugu states as temperatures drop sharply
Cold wave in Telugu states | Hyderabad, Dec. 18: A severe cold wave has tightened its grip over the Telugu states, with night and day temperatures dropping to alarming lows across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Several regions in Telangana have recorded single digit temperatures, while dense fog in some areas is disrupting vehicular movement and daily life.
Patancheru recorded a low of 8 degrees Celsius, while Adilabad reported 9 degrees. Meanwhile, Hyderabad also witnessed a sharp dip in temperatures, with the mercury falling to 13 degrees Celsius.
As a result, residents are experiencing intense cold conditions, and stepping outdoors has become difficult, especially during early morning and late night hours.
The situation is particularly harsh for homeless people sleeping on footpaths without shelter. With no protection from the cold, many are struggling and are dependent on public charity for basic essentials like blankets and bedsheets.
Dundigal recorded a minimum temperature of 13 degrees, while Hayathnagar saw the mercury drop to 14 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave in Telugu states | To persist till December 21
According to the Meteorological Department, the cold wave is expected to continue across Telangana until December 21.
The department has warned that temperatures in western Telangana may fall further, ranging between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius over the next four days.
People have been advised to remain cautious, particularly children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.
Cold conditions are intensifying in Andhra Pradesh as well. Agency areas such as Araku Valley and Lambasingi are blanketed in thick fog, creating a chilling atmosphere.
In these regions, temperatures have plunged to single digits, with readings ranging between 2 and 5 degrees Celsius in Lambasingi, Araku, and nearby villages.
As temperatures continue to fall, residents in agency and tribal regions are facing extreme discomfort. Authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary travel during foggy hours, and ensure adequate protection against the cold.
The prevailing weather pattern has significantly impacted normal life in both states, and officials continue to monitor the situation closely as winter conditions intensify.
