Hyderabad, May 2: The Hyderabad City Police Cyber Crime Unit has busted a major network promoting illegal online betting, gaming apps, and fake investment schemes, taking down hundreds of social media profiles and advertisements.
Massive Digital Crackdown
During April, the Cyber Crime unit identified:
- 184 social media profiles on platforms like Facebook and Instagram
- 801 paid advertisements promoting illegal betting and fake investment schemes
These profiles were using:
- Fake promises of high returns, bonuses, and referral commissions
- IPL predictions and gambling links
- Deepfake videos of celebrities to mislead users
All identified profiles have been reported and taken down to stop further spread.
FIRs Registered, Investigation On
Police registered 6 FIRs in April against those involved in promoting these illegal activities.
Under ongoing cyber patrol operations:
- 427 total profiles
- 1,903 advertisements
have been removed so far.
Authorities are now tracking the individuals and financial networks behind these operations.
Public Advisory Issued
The Cyber Crime Police warned citizens that:
- Online betting and gambling are illegal in Telangana
- Such platforms can lead to financial loss and data misuse
- Sharing or promoting such links can also attract legal action

- Avoid downloading or registering on unknown betting apps
- Do not trust “high return” investment schemes
- Be cautious of deepfake videos promoting investments
- Verify before investing or sharing financial details
