Telangana Assembly winter session begins today
Telangana Assembly | Hyderabad, Dec. 29: The Telangana Assembly winter session will begin today and will continue for three days, with river water sharing issues set as the main agenda of the House.
After the session begins on Monday, members will pay tributes to deceased former legislators. The House will express condolences for former minister and ex Tungaturthi and Suryapet MLA Damodar Reddy, and former Chevella MLA Konda Laxma Reddy.
Subsequently, the Deputy Speaker election schedule will be announced in the Assembly.
After adjournment, the Business Advisory Committee will meet to finalise the Assembly agenda. The House will reconvene on January 2 after a brief break due to Vaikuntha Ekadashi and New Year celebrations.
Discussions on Krishna river waters will take place on January 2, followed by deliberations on Godavari river waters on January 3.
The government will present a detailed PowerPoint presentation on Krishna waters. Officials have been working intensively to prepare supporting documents.
Telangana Assembly session focus shifts to river water disputes
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy have issued clear instructions to officials.
Accordingly, irrigation department staff have been collecting documents, agreements, and river board records, even during holidays.
Officials have also gathered video clips of statements made by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Krishna and Godavari waters, both inside and outside the Assembly.
The ruling party plans to use these materials to counter the BRS during the session. Sources said clips related to KCR remarks made during visits outside Telangana will also be cited.
Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party will conduct an awareness programme for MLAs and MLCs on January 1 to brief them on discussion strategy.
Telangana Assembly | KCR is expected to attend
Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister KCR is expected to attend the Assembly on the first day.
His presence has generated political interest, as he attended only one day during the previous budget session.
The government has also decided to hold the Deputy Speaker election during this session. Dornakal MLA Ramchandra Naik, earlier announced by the AICC, will be nominated. Given the majority strength, his election is expected to be unanimous.
Senior officials reviewed arrangements for smooth conduct of the session at a preparatory meeting on Sunday. Security, traffic regulation, and protest prevention measures were discussed in detail. Authorities assured full support to ensure uninterrupted proceedings.
The government will table several bills, including amendments to GST law, GHMC expansion ordinances, municipal law changes, and Panchayat Raj amendments. Annual reports of various departments and corporations will also be placed before the House.
Assembly Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu said the government seeks constructive debate in a cordial atmosphere. He stated that the opposition leader’s experience would benefit the state and assured respect for democratic traditions.
