The National Road Safety Month 2026 began in Telangana on Wednesday, with Road Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar calling for strict adherence to traffic rules by all citizens. The month long programme will continue across the state with a focus on awareness and participation from the public, officials, and educational institutions.
The minister launched the National Road Safety Month 2026 by unveiling its official poster at Yadagirigutta. Speaking at the event, he stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility. He appealed to public representatives, government officials, and citizens to actively take part in road safety awareness programmes during the month. He also underlined the need for consistent behaviour on roads to prevent avoidable accidents.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the Transport Department, in coordination with the Education Department, has begun taking undertakings from students and their parents across Telangana. These undertakings confirm their commitment to follow road safety rules. According to the minister, this step aims to build awareness at a young age and ensure responsible road use in the future. He further suggested that every school in the state should join the Road Safety Club to keep students alert about traffic rules and safety practices.
Meanwhile, recent reports released by police officers across the state highlighted that a large number of deaths occur due to road accidents. In this context, the Transport Department appealed to the people of Telangana to strictly follow traffic rules.
Later, government officials and public representatives took part in the programme, showing support for the road safety campaign. Government Whip Birla Ailaiah, District Collector Hanumantha Rao, and senior Transport Department officials attended the event. Their presence, therefore, reinforced the government’s focus on reducing road accidents through awareness and collective responsibility during National Road Safety Month 2026.
