Allegations have surfaced that registration fees and stamp duties meant for the government treasury were illegally diverted.

Officials have detected a racket that allegedly used technical loopholes in the software to cause losses worth crores of rupees to the state exchequer.

In this backdrop, the Lokayukta took suo motu cognisance of the Bhu Bharati registration scam. Taking the issue seriously, the Lokayukta ordered a comprehensive inquiry.

Directions were issued to the Chief Secretary of the state, the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, the Commissioner of Stamps and Registrations, the Inspector General, the Mee Seva Commissioner, and the Jangaon district registration authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.

According to officials, a technical gang played a key role in the alleged fraud. Normally, during land registration, challan payments must be made through official government websites.

However, the accused reportedly used third party applications to edit challan amounts. In cases where registration fees of lakhs of rupees were payable, they allegedly paid only hundreds or a few thousand rupees.

Bhu Bharati portal registration fraud | Jangaon case exposes

The scam came to light in Jangaon district. Officials found that on a single day, registrations linked to 10 challans were completed without nearly Rs 8,55,577 being credited to the government account.

When senior officials noticed discrepancies and ordered a deeper review, the fraud surfaced. Following this, the Jangaon Tahsildar lodged a formal complaint, prompting the police to step in and begin an investigation.

Meanwhile, officials believe such a large scale manipulation could not have been carried out by external elements alone.

There are growing suspicions that without the support of technical staff within the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration office, data manipulation would have been impossible.

During preliminary inquiry, it emerged that an internet centre operator from Yadadri allegedly edited the challans and processed the payments. Police have registered a case and are continuing further investigation.

Therefore, the Bhu Bharati portal scam has raised serious concerns over data security and internal oversight.
