Puranapool Communal Incident: 11 Arrested In Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Kamatipura police arrested 11 accused persons on January 19, 2026, in connection with a communal incident at Puranapool Chilla, following damage to property and provocative slogans that disturbed public harmony. The arrests relate to Crime No. 12 of 2026, registered after a complaint over the incident.
The accused were part of an unlawful assembly and allegedly raised communal slogans while damaging property, leading to tension in the area. Police said the accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Investigation and Police Action After Puranapool Incident
Police said the trigger occurred on January 15, 2026, at around 11:30 pm, when one accused allegedly entered the Mysamma Temple at Puranapool Darwaza. The person partially damaged a flex banner and a plaster of Paris idol placed in the temple veranda. Later, based on this incident, a group formed an unlawful assembly and caused damage to the Chilla, escalating the situation.
During the investigation, Kamatipura police analysed CCTV footage and technical evidence. This process helped identify several accused involved in the offence. Those arrested include local residents engaged in various occupations such as shop workers, vegetable vendors, private employees, labourers, and a homemaker.
Police said all 11 accused were arrested on January 19 and produced before the Hon’ble Court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other absconding accused linked to the case.
Following instructions from Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, police intensified patrolling in sensitive areas. Flag marches were conducted in Kamatipura and Bahadurpura, and pickets were deployed to prevent further incidents and reassure residents.
Police appealed to people from all communities to maintain peace, avoid spreading rumours, and cooperate with law enforcement to preserve communal harmony and public order.
