The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the national capital Delhi, with patriotism visible throughout the day. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the national flag by the President. The military parade on Kartavyapath remained the central attraction and impressed the audience from start to end. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial, marking the solemn beginning of the national event.

Later, President Murmu welcomed the chief guests at the venue. The guests were European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa. President Murmu arrived with the chief guests in a traditional buggy from Rashtrapati Bhavan. She then unfurled the national flag at Kartavyapath. After that, the Republic Day parade formally began amid applause from those present.

The Republic Day parade opened with the march of the three services. Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar led the parade. Meanwhile, the maneuvers of the Prachanda helicopters caught attention and added to the spectacle. Another special feature was the participation of the cavalry in combat uniforms for the first time. The parade followed the theme of Vande Mataram and showcased various weapon systems. These displays highlighted the country’s development, cultural diversity, and the greatness of Operation Sindoor.

Also, four military officers from Europe participated in the parade. They rode in gypsy vehicles carrying their national flags, which impressed the guests. For the first time, the Indian Army paraded in Battle Array format during the celebrations. The 61 Cavalry Regiment, a reconnaissance vehicle used for surveillance, also featured in the parade. A Dhruva helicopter display carrying the Operation Sindoor flag further reflected national military spirit.

Before the ceremony began, Indian astronaut and Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla received the Ashok Chakra from the President. The Ashok Chakra is the highest gallantry award. It is known that Subhanshu Shukla achieved the rare distinction of being the first Indian to visit the International Space Station. Therefore, this moment added significance to the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.
