Explosives Seized Before Republic Day In Rajasthan
- Explosives seized in Nagaur raid ahead of Republic Day
- Explosives seized include ammonium nitrate, detonators
Police in Rajasthan seized a massive quantity of explosives ahead of Republic Day, raising serious security concerns. The seizure took place in Nagaur district, where officers recovered nearly ten thousand kilos of ammonium nitrate from a field. The action followed a specific tip off and led to the arrest of one person. Authorities said the operation aimed to prevent possible threats during Republic Day celebrations.
The police conducted raids in Harsaur village under the leadership of Nagpur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhwa. During the search, officers found about 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate. The material was packed in 187 gunny bags and hidden in a field. Along with the explosives, the police also arrested a person at the spot. Officials said the scale of the seizure was significant and required immediate attention from senior agencies.
Police recalled that ammonium nitrate had been used in several major terror attacks in the past. They specifically referred to the blast near the Red Fort in Delhi in November 2025. Therefore, the recovery of such a large quantity ahead of Republic Day prompted deeper scrutiny. Meanwhile, the police expanded the search and recovered several other explosive related items from the site.
Among the seized materials were nine cartons of detonators. Officers also seized 12 cartons and 15 bundles of blue fuse wire. In addition, 12 cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire were recovered. The police identified the arrested person as Suleman Khan from Harsaur village. According to officials, three criminal cases were already registered against him in the past.
During preliminary questioning, the accused told investigators that the explosives were meant for illegal mining activities. However, police did not rule out other angles. A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act. Meanwhile, the police informed central investigation agencies about the seizure. These agencies will examine whether any terrorist link exists in this case. Officials said they are likely to question the accused soon as part of the wider probe. The investigation continues, with security agencies remaining alert following the Republic Day related recovery.
