The Economic Survey Telugu States chapter placed Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in focus and listed several development indicators. The Survey, presented by the Centre in Parliament, referred to economic trends, agriculture, urban growth, and sector wise progress in both states. It highlighted falling inflation, changes in cultivable land, and the role of major projects. It also reviewed city development and industrial reforms in the Telugu states.

The Economic Survey stated that inflation is decreasing every year in Andhra Pradesh. It said inflation stood at 7.57 percent in 2022-23. However, it is expected to come down to 1.39 percent by 2025-26. In Telangana, inflation declined from 8.61 percent to 0.20 percent. Meanwhile, the Survey noted that the national average inflation in the Telugu states was 1.72 percent. It also said agricultural output is decreasing due to untimely rains and natural disasters.

The Survey referred to Andhra Pradesh’s capital Amaravati in the context of expansion and development of new cities. It specifically mentioned the construction of Amaravati as a green city. It also stated that Amaravati has received better opportunities in city construction. The Economic Survey further said Andhra Pradesh is at the forefront of trade reform activities. Therefore, it noted that the business environment in the state is improving.

The Survey also highlighted administrative and industrial measures in Andhra Pradesh. It mentioned the granting of industrial permits through a single window system. It stated that 81 lakh land plots in 6,900 villages have been re surveyed. It also said that 86 thousand border disputes have been resolved. Later, the Survey stated that a world class bulk drug park will be set up in the state. It added that the number of foreign students is increasing in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. Vijayawada and Tirupati were listed among the top 10 liveable cities in the country.

Economic Survey Telugu States shows Telangana sector growth

In Telangana, the Economic Survey revealed that cultivable land increased from 1.31 crore acres to 2.21 crore acres between 2014 and 2023. It said this improvement came due to Mission Kakatiya and the Kaleshwaram projects. It also stated that Telangana recorded a 5 percent share in the manufacturing sector. In the area of AI startups, Telangana’s share stood at 7 percent, while Karnataka led with 30 percent.

The Survey further noted that Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana together held a 40 percent share in IT, finance, and professional services. Through the Bhubharati portal, Telangana integrated the revenue, stamps, and registration departments. It also reported that Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad have the highest urban population. Hyderabad ranked as the fourth fastest growing city, while Vijayawada stood tenth. The Economic Survey estimated Hyderabad’s GDP could rise to $201.4 billion by 2035, while Vijayawada’s GDP could reach $21.3 billion. It also said Hyderabad topped municipal bond issuances.
