- MANUU highlights bioinformatics research and internships
Hyderabad: The Botany Section of the School of Sciences at Maulana Azad National Urdu University organized a two days National Workshop titled “16s Metagenomic Analysis.” The academic event focused on bioinformatics and high impact research. It brought together scholars, students, and experts for detailed discussions on emerging research areas. The inaugural session took place on January 28, 2026. Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice Chancellor of MANUU, presided over the event. Madavan Vasudevan, Founder and CEO, attended as the chief guest.
During his address, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan underlined the university’s academic direction. He said that although MANUU is an Urdu University, its research and academic events strictly follow current global trends. He stated that the university remains committed to meeting corporate HR demands. He also welcomed students from across the country to join MANUU for degree programs and internships. His remarks highlighted the institution’s focus on relevance and national outreach.
Meanwhile, Madavan Vasudevan, Founder and CEO of Theomics International Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, spoke on the growing role of advanced research tools. He stressed the need for basic science departments such as Botany to move into advanced areas like Metagenomics. He explained that strong grounding in basic sciences, when combined with advanced technical skills, creates a powerful platform for student success. His comments connected academic learning with industry needs.
Also speaking on the occasion, Prof. Salman Ahmad Khan, Dean of the School of Sciences, shared his views with the participants. Earlier, Prof. S. Maqbool Ahmed, Head of the Botany Section, welcomed the guests. He noted that students from several institutes are actively using internship facilities in the Botany Section. He added that the department is currently hosting interns from Savitribai Phule Pune University, which reflects its national appeal.
Later, Dr. Maruthi K.R., the workshop convener, pointed to the scale of metagenomics data. He said the voluminous nature of such data has created strong market demand for skilled experts. Dr. Mohd Danish proposed a vote of thanks. Certificates were then distributed to participants during the valedictory session, marking the conclusion of the workshop.
