GHMC Budget | Hyderabad, Jan. 31 (Maxim News): AIMIM Nampally MLA Majid Hussain on Saturday raised sharp concerns over the GHMC Budget 2026 27 during the GHMC Council meeting, questioning both its size and utilisation.
Speaking in the council, Majid Hussain said the Rs 11,460 crore Budget for the year 2026-27 was inadequate after the merger of surrounding municipalities.
Majid Hussain stated that Greater Hyderabad had become India’s largest municipal corporation and required a budget of at least Rs 20,000 crore.
Hussain urged the GHMC Commissioner to prioritise property tax collection, stating it would strengthen the corporation’s financial position.
Majid said improved tax collection would directly benefit civic services and infrastructure development.

Majid Hussain highlighted persistent civic issues despite large budget allocations.
He said many city roads remained in poor condition and sanitation existed largely on paper. He also pointed out irregular maintenance of streetlights, stating residents were unaware of when lights were functional.
Majid Hussain raised concerns over safe drinking water supply, inadequate drainage systems, and poor maintenance.
AIMIM MLA Majid said issues related to dog menace and mosquito control continued despite dedicated budget provisions.
The AIMIM MLA also alleged that road sweeping was not conducted daily in several areas. He demanded that the GHMC Commissioner clearly present actual income and expenditure figures before the council.
Majid Hussain questioned the logic behind budget distribution, stating areas with lower population were receiving higher allocations than densely populated localities.
He asked the commissioner to justify the disparity and focus on effective utilisation rather than large allocations. (Maxim News)
