Hyderabad, Sept. 20 (Maxim News): Three people were injured after a portion of the ceiling collapsed in the Aarogyasri ward of Warangal’s Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital on Sunday morning.
The injured were identified as Mastan, 55, who was undergoing treatment for paralysis, and attendants Yellamma, 50, and Omkar, 33. All three are reportedly from Uppugal village in Zaffergadh mandal.
The ceiling plaster suddenly fell inside the ward, causing panic among patients and their attendants. Hospital staff immediately attended to the injured and provided medical treatment.
According to MGM Hospital RMO Dr M. Ashwin, the three suffered minor injuries and were shifted to another ward.
Warangal MGM Hospital Safety Concerns
The incident has raised fresh concerns over patient safety and the condition of the old MGM Hospital building. Hospital officials said the affected portion was in the old building and that water seepage from the roof had weakened the ceiling.
Security and sanitation staff cleared the fallen debris after the incident, and the affected ward was subsequently locked.
The ceiling collapse has also drawn attention to peeling plaster and ageing infrastructure in parts of the hospital. Patients and attendants have raised concerns about the need for regular inspections and repairs in vulnerable areas.
MGM Hospital is a major government healthcare facility serving patients from Warangal and several northern Telangana districts. The incident has renewed questions about the maintenance of its older buildings while work on the new multi-super-speciality hospital continues.
Authorities are expected to assess the affected portion and take necessary safety measures to prevent similar incidents. (Maxim News)
