Hyderabad, Feb 9 (Maxim News): AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has lodged a formal complaint with the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, seeking criminal action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over a now deleted video shared online.
In the written complaint dated February 9, 2026, Owaisi alleged that Himanta Biswa Sarma had, over several years, made statements against the Muslim community through social media, print media, and public speeches.
Asad Owaisi stated that many such statements remain available in the public domain.
Owaisi further alleged that in recent months the Assam Chief Minister intensified such statements with a deliberate intent to outrage the religious feelings of Muslims.
He claimed the remarks promoted enmity and hatred between Hindus and Muslims and were prejudicial to national integration and communal harmony.
Owaisi cites video and Supreme Court ruling
In the complaint, Owaisi referred to a recent video posted on the official X account of the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party on February 7, 2026.
Owaisi stated that although the video was taken down a day later, it continues to be available on social media.
According to the complaint, the video depicted Himanta Biswa Sarma armed with a firearm, targeting persons portrayed as Muslims and shooting them.
Owaisi stated that the video included phrases such as “Point blank shot” and “No Mercy.”
Asad Owaisi alleged that the imagery and statements amounted to a deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings, promote hatred between communities, and incite communal violence.
Asaduddin Owaisi added that the video was accessible across India, including within the jurisdiction of Hyderabad police.
The complaint also cited the Supreme Court judgment in Shaheen Abdulla vs Union of India and Others.
Owaisi noted that the court held it is the constitutional duty of the state and law enforcement agencies to protect fundamental rights and preserve constitutional values.
He pointed out that the court directed police to take suo motu action in cases of hate speech, even without a formal complaint.
Owaisi stated that he had viewed the video within the jurisdiction of the concerned police station.
Based on these grounds, he requested immediate and necessary legal action against Himanta Biswa Sarma as per law (Maxim News) .
