Hyderabad, August 22: The CCS Special Crime Team and Gandhinagar police arrested five people for allegedly transporting 38 kg of ganja from Araku to Mumbai.
Police seized the contraband, estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh, during the operation on Friday.
The suspects were identified as Rajaram Swami Kannu Padaiyachi, 78, Santosh Balaram Prajapathi, 65, Vijayalaxmi Kaliyamurti Pellai, 66, Silmina Kujur, 36, and Sheela Devi, 48.
Ganja Transport Network From Araku To Mumbai
According to police, the suspects allegedly procured ganja from Araku in Visakhapatnam district. They packed the contraband in brown coloured parcels and transported it by bus to Hyderabad.
From Hyderabad, they allegedly boarded another bus to Mumbai. Police said they delivered the parcels at locations provided by an unidentified person.
The suspects allegedly concealed the parcels in regular travel bags. They also travelled separately to avoid detection.
After reaching Hyderabad, they reportedly stayed at different lodges for about a day. They then continued their journey to Mumbai.
Police said the suspects were allegedly paid Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 for each delivery. Some of them also have previous criminal cases linked to ganja transportation.
