India Malaysia relations saw renewed emphasis during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia, where both sides underlined cooperation on security, technology, and people to people ties. The discussions highlighted a shared stand on terrorism, deeper defence engagement, and future focused partnerships. Prime Minister Modi met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as part of the visit and later addressed the media.
Speaking after the talks, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s clear position on terrorism. He said, “Our position on terrorism is clear. There is no room for double standards. There is no room for compromise.” He also stressed that India would continue to support all efforts for peace. The statement reflected India’s consistent approach on global security issues and its expectations from international partners.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi said that cooperation in key areas would be strengthened. These include counter terrorism, intelligence sharing, and maritime security. He also said that defence cooperation would expand. According to Modi, both countries agreed to look ahead and build partnerships that match future needs. He announced that cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital technologies, healthcare, national security, semiconductors, and trade would be enhanced. These areas were identified as important for long term growth and stability.
India Malaysia relations also draw strength from historical and cultural links. Prime Minister Modi said that India shares a very special relationship with Malaysia. He noted that Malaysia is the second largest country in the world in terms of population of Indian origin. He added that there are deep and warm relations between the people of both nations. He further said that the common love for the Tamil language unites both countries, highlighting cultural bonds beyond formal diplomacy.
On the other hand, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim welcomed India’s decision to use local currencies as much as possible in bilateral transactions. This move aims to make trade smoother and reduce dependence on external currencies. Later, several agreements were signed between the two countries during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Malaysia, reflecting the outcomes of the discussions and the intent to strengthen cooperation further.
The visit underlined the growing scope of India Malaysia relations across security, economy, technology, and cultural ties, while both leaders signalled continued engagement in the coming years.
