Hyderabad, Sept. 4: Falaknuma police have arrested six people and detained a juvenile in connection with the murder of 53 year old real estate businessman Mohd. Mehboob Ali.
Police said the victim was attacked near Almas Hotel in Vattepally on August 30. He suffered multiple knife injuries and later died while undergoing treatment at Princess Esra Hospital.
The police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act and launched an investigation.
Falaknuma Police Uncover Superstition Linked Murder Motive
During the investigation, police found that the murder was allegedly linked to a belief in black magic.
According to police, accused Mirza Mohsin Baig suspected that Mehboob Ali had performed black magic on his mother, Tahera Begum, causing her prolonged illness.
He also allegedly blamed the deceased for the death of his maternal uncle, Mohammed Khaleel, due to the same belief.
Police said Baig discussed his suspicions with his cousin Mohammed Imran Ahemad. The latter allegedly advised him to eliminate Mehboob Ali and promised to help the accused secure bail.
Police said the accused then allegedly planned the murder with four other men and a juvenile.
On August 30, the accused allegedly gathered after learning that Mehboob Ali was near Almas Hotel. Police said they later attacked him with knives and daggers.
The attack caused serious injuries to his head, chest, hands and other parts of the body. He later died during treatment.
Police apprehended all six adult accused and the juvenile on September 3. They were produced before a court for judicial custody.
Police also seized two Activa scooters, three mobile phones and six knives and daggers allegedly linked to the crime.
The accused were identified as Mirza Mohsin Baig, Mohammed Imran Ahemad, Mohd Naseer, Shaik Akram, Mohd Abrar Ali and Mohammed Sami alias Shutter.
Police appealed to the public not to believe in black magic or act on such superstitious beliefs. They urged people to approach the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
