Telangana Govt Decided To Launch New Employee Heath Scheme
Hyderabad, Feb 13 (Maxim News): The Telangana government has decided to launch the new Employee health Scheme (EhS) in the state in the next 15 days. Every month, employees and pensioners will contribute 1.5 percent of their basic pay/pension for the implementation of the scheme. The government will also allocate 1.5 percent of the same.
These decisions were taken at the Employee healthcare Trust meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary k.Ramakrishna Rao at the State Secretariat.
Special Chief Secretaries to the government CV Anand, Mahesh Dutt Ekka, principal Secretary of the Finance Department Sandeep Sultania, CEO of Rajiv Arogyasri Trust Udayakumar, along with leaders of the employment, teacher and retired employees’ associations participated. The meeting decided to launch the new scheme in the presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. The scheme will be launched during the budget meetings. The CS said that the state government’s intention is to provide the best medical facilities to the employees and the new scheme proposed now is a step forward. He said that changes and additions to this scheme in the coming period will be decided in the trust meeting. The details of the new scheme were explained through a Powerpoint presentation by Principal Secretary of the Medical and health Department Christina Chongtu.
There are 7.14 lakh regular employees and pensioners in the state. The family members are 12.84 lakh. If the employees pay 1.5 percent of their basic salary every month for this scheme, Rs. 528 crore will be deposited annually. The government will pay the same amount as its share, making the total Rs. 1,056 crore, explained Christina Chongtu. The government has reimbursed the employees for medical treatment, the highest amount in the last four years Rs. 803 crore in 2023-24. Accordingly, the contribution of 1.5 percent has been calculated and decided. The Employee Healthcare Trust will have six representatives from the employee unions and two members from the pensioners unions. One of the government employees will be appointed as the CEO of the trust. The Chief Secretary to the government will be the chairman.
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS
This scheme is applicable to regular employees, pensioners, class IV employees, non-gazetted and gazetted pensions. 515 hospitals have been identified for cashless medical services at present.
Currently, there are medical schemes in place called the Health Security Scheme for the Police Department and the Assistance Scheme for the Excise Department. Employees of those departments will also be included in the EhS.
While the unions felt that the 1.5 percent contribution would be too high, officials responded that it would be started as a pilot project and could be reduced in the future.
The scheme will be implemented after a resolution is passed in the trust for staff working in government institutions, model, aided schools, KGBVs and Gurukul schools. The issue of applying EHS to those in border districts who seek emergency treatment in neighboring states will be considered.
