Election Code Lifted After Telangana Municipal Poll Process Ends

Hyderabad, Feb. 17 (Maxim News): The Telangana State Election Commission released the schedule for the Telangana Municipal Elections on January 27.

Soon after the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct came into force in all municipalities and municipal corporations across the state. Now, with the election process complete, the State Election Commission has officially lifted the Model Code of Conduct.

Polling took place on February 11. Counting concluded on February 13. Later, on February 16 and 17, newly elected ward members took oath. The process of electing mayors and chairpersons also concluded during these two days. As a result, election authorities announced that the code of conduct stands withdrawn with immediate effect.

From January 27, the code remained in force in 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations. During this period, the government stopped announcing new schemes. It also paused transfers and restricted official publicity.

However, with the code now lifted, pending development works will restart. Administrative decisions and transfers are also expected to resume soon.

Officials and political leaders have expressed relief after the end of the election period. Meanwhile, newly elected mayors and chairpersons are set to assume charge in their respective offices. They are expected to focus on local development.

Importantly, even in municipalities where results led to tense situations, the process has now concluded peacefully. Therefore, normalcy has returned across the state. (Maxim News)
