Telangana Issues Official Order For Ramadan Work Hours Relaxation
Hyderabad, Feb. 18: The Telangana Labour Department has issued a formal order granting Ramadan work hour relaxation to shops and establishments across the state.
According to the official proceedings dated February 17, 2026, the exemption will remain in force from February 19 to March 20. During this period, shops can operate until 5 am for Sehri.
The Commissioner of Labour issued the order under Section 76 of the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988. The exemption applies to specific provisions of the Act during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan Work Hour Relaxation Subject to Conditions
However, the government has imposed clear safeguards for workers. Employers must pay overtime wages at twice the ordinary rate for work beyond eight hours a day or 48 hours a week.
In addition, employees working on holidays must receive compensatory leave. Authorities have also capped total working hours at 13 hours per day, including Sundays.
Furthermore, women employees are exempt from extra working hours. Employers cannot assign women staff duty beyond 8.30 pm under any circumstances.
Officials stated that the Ramadan work hour relaxation aims to support business activity while protecting employee welfare. The order has been circulated to all Joint and Deputy Commissioners of Labour for strict implementation.
