CPI Leader Alleges Police Threat in Municipal Elections
Hyderabad, Feb. 18 (Maxim News): CPI State Secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao alleged that a police officer threatened his party candidate with a gun during the municipal elections nomination withdrawal process.
Sambasiva Rao accused the ruling party of misusing the police to prevent CPI candidates from contesting. As a result, his remarks have triggered political reactions across the state.
According to Kunamneni, a Circle Inspector pointed a service revolver at a CPI candidate and forced him to withdraw his nomination. Rao questioned how such actions could take place in a democratic system.
CPI Raises Allegations Over Nomination Withdrawal
Furthermore, Kunamneni said elections must be won through democratic means. However, he claimed that threatening candidates with firearms undermines democracy.
Sambasiva Rao also alleged that the Congress party failed to honour its alliance commitments before the polls.
Nevertheless, he clarified that CPI decided to cooperate with Congress due to prevailing political conditions.
In addition, he stated that both parties agreed to share the Kothagudem Corporation Mayor post for two and a half years each.
Meanwhile, there has been no official response from the police or the ruling party regarding the allegations. (Maxim News)
