Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Boycotts Board Meet

Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment MLA N Sri Ganesh boycotted the general board meeting of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board on Wednesday. He demanded that the Central government conduct SCB elections without further delay. The MLA took this step during the scheduled board proceedings.

MLA opposes SCB nominated member tenure extension

N Sri Ganesh walked out soon after the oath taking ceremony of SCB civilian nominated member Bhanuka Narmada. She received a second term that began on February 15. However, the MLA objected to the extension of the nominated member’s tenure. He said the Central government should conduct Cantonment Board elections instead of extending nominations.

The MLA cited the extension as the main reason for boycotting the meeting. Meanwhile, the oath taking ceremony proceeded as planned. The development added tension to the general board meeting of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

Representation sent to Ministry of Defence

Later, N Sri Ganesh submitted a representation to Brigadier S Rajeev, President of the Cantonment Board. He urged him to forward the representation to the Ministry of Defence. He asked the Ministry to take an immediate decision and ensure that SCB elections are conducted.

The MLA also spoke to the media after boycotting the meeting. He said the Central government was delaying Cantonment Board elections for the past five years. He further alleged that the government was prolonging the SCB merger by nominating a Cantonment civilian member instead of holding elections.

Therefore, the issue of SCB elections has once again come to the forefront. The boycott highlighted the demand for immediate polls in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board. Meanwhile, the extension of the nominated member’s tenure continues to draw criticism from the MLA.

The Secunderabad Cantonment MLA maintained that elections should replace nominations. He stressed that conducting SCB elections would address concerns about representation. However, no immediate response from the Ministry of Defence was mentioned in the proceedings.
