Meerut/Hyderabad, Feb 22: Prime Minister Modi on Sunday inaugurated the country’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The Namo Bharat RRTS corridor has a total length of 82 km and covers the distance in 45 minutes.
The Namo Bharat RRTS connects the national capital Delhi with nearby major cities. Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, Modinagar and Meerut can now be reached quickly through this rail route. Therefore, the corridor aims to improve regional travel and cut commute time between Delhi and Meerut.
The construction of the Delhi Meerut railway line cost Rs 30,274 crore. This is the first RRTS line in the country. The train runs at a speed of 180 km on this route. As a result, passengers can travel long distances in less time. The project also promises pollution free and traffic free transport facilities on the respective routes.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the Meerut Metro Rail. The metro runs between South Meerut and Modipuram. It travels at a speed of 160 km per hour. It covers the 23 km distance from South Meerut station to Modipuram station in less than 30 minutes. The train service will be available from 6 pm today.
Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro use the same station related services. After the launch, Prime Minister Modi travelled by metro to Meerut South station along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Later, officials stated that once the Delhi Meerut metro services are fully operational, a train will run every 10 minutes. However, at present, a train runs every 15 minutes.
Along with the launch of Namo Bharat RRTS and Meerut Metro Rail, Prime Minister Modi also launched projects worth Rs 12,390 crore. The inauguration marks a major step in strengthening high speed rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region.
