Bomb Scare At Six Courts In Bengal As Judges Join SIR Exercise
Kolkata/Hyderabad, Feb 24 (Maxim News): There was a minor jolt in the West Bengal judiciary on Tuesday. The reason.. bomb threats were received simultaneously for all five courts in the state, including the district courts. It is noteworthy that these threats came within 48 hours of the Supreme Court ordering the district judges to work for ‘SIR‘. These threats came through mail on Tuesday morning. The bomb threat was received through mail to the Kolkata City Civil Court judge.
Shortly after that, police sources said that bomb threats were received targeting five courts including Berhampur (Murshidabad) and Chinsurah (Hooghly). Upon receiving information about this, bomb disposal teams and local police reached the courts. The entire court premises have been cordoned off and inspections are being carried out. Sniffer dogs are also participating in these searches. The courts and their surroundings are being thoroughly inspected. Staff are being sent out to conduct searches in the City Civil Court and other courts. Forensic teams are also providing assistance. In this context, security has been tightened at various courts.
Due to this, activities in the respective courts have come to a standstill. However, no suspected explosives have been detected so far. The threat mails have been received by these courts with almost no time difference. And.. the Bengal DGP is reviewing the situation.
Security has been increased for the courts as well as for the judges. In Particular, complete security has been ordered for the judges performing ‘SIR’ duties. Bengal cyber officials are trying to find out where these emails came from. They are finding out about the IP addresses related to the emails. And.. already, several threats have been received by the staff participating in ‘Sir’ duties. The Supreme Court has also expressed concern about them. The bomb threats have gained importance in the wake of the recent Supreme Court order that district-level judges should share the ‘Sir’ duties. (Maxim News)
