High Court Steps In to Protect Journalists’ Rights-Accreditation Cards Extended till April 30, 2026
Hyderabad, Feb. 26 (Maxim News): In a significant development, the Telangana High Court has directed continuation of journalists’ accreditation cards till April 30, 2026, in a case challenging the validity of G.O. Ms. No. 252, as amended by G.O. 103.
The matter arises out of writ petitions filed by the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation, questioning the impugned Government Orders and seeking protection of accreditation facilities pending adjudication.
The petitioners are represented by Advocate Barkat Ali Khan. During the course of hearing, the Special Advocate General submitted that the Government of Telangana has decided to temporarily extend the validity of existing accreditation cards by two months in order to avoid disruption to the professional events of working journalists.

Recording the submission, the Court directed that the present accreditation cards shall remain valid until April 30, 2026. The Court also granted time to the State to file its detailed counter affidavit addressing the challenge to G.O. Ms. No. 252 and the amended G.O. 103.
The matter is likely to be listed for further hearing after the filing of the counter. The matter is posted after four weeks.
Meanwhile, accredited journalists across Telangana will continue to avail official access and related facilities without interruption during the extended period.
Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, General Secretary of the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation, has welcomed the extension of accreditation card validity.
However, he called it mere temporary relief and vowed to keep fighting until full justice is secured for journalists. (Maxim News)
