Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council exposed a major eye care racket in Miryalaguda after inspections found unqualified technicians performing surgeries and advanced diagnostics in private clinics. The crackdown revealed serious violations and led to police action against several individuals.
The inspections showed that eight private eye care facilities operated without on site qualified specialists. Although these centres were registered with district health authorities, none had a qualified ophthalmologist present during the checks. As a result, the Council filed FIRs, and police arrested five ophthalmic technicians.
TGMC inspections reveal unqualified surgeries in eye hospitals
The Telangana Medical Council conducted inspections at Sri Venkateswara SV Eye Hospital, Sri Mahalakshmi Eye Hospital, Annapurna Netralayam, Yashasvi Eye Hospital, Shalini Eye Clinic, Rapha Vision Care Center, and Shiva Sai Eye Hospital in Miryalaguda. Officials found that these facilities had secured permissions from the District Registration Authority using the names of legitimate ophthalmologists. However, optometry and ophthalmology technicians actually operated them.
According to the Council, these unqualified individuals prescribed medications beyond their legal scope. They also conducted advanced diagnostic tests. In some cases, they even performed surgical procedures. Meanwhile, the qualified doctors under whose names permissions were granted were practicing in cities, including Hyderabad.
Criminal cases under NMC and TMPR Acts initiated
The Council announced that criminal cases under the National Medical Commission NMC and Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration TMPR Acts will be filed against technicians Nagesh, Walke Srinu, Nagaraju, Shiva Koteshwar Rao, Venkatesh, and Vikas Kumar. Cases will also be filed against the fake practitioner A. Koteshwar Rao.
Dr. V. Naresh Kumar, Chairman of the TGMC Public Relations Committee, said show cause notices are being issued to the involved doctors, including Dr. Srikumar, Dr. Prabhu Chaitanya, Dr. M. Bharat Bhushan, and Dr. K. Venkateswarlu. They must appear before the Medical Ethics and Malpractices Committee. If their explanations are unsatisfactory, the Council will recommend suspension of their medical licences. It will also urge the District Collector to take further administrative action against the errant hospitals.
Council members Dr. V. Naresh Kumar, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar, Dr. J. Srikanth Varma, and Vigilance Officer M. Rakesh carried out the inspections under the guidance of TGMC Chairman Dr. K. Mahesh Kumar.
