The orders, issued on February 23, followed a series of show-cause notices sent to these doctors in May 2025.

While some members of the teaching faculty submitted explanations, the DME, Telangana, Dr A Narendra Kumar, said the explanations were examined, ultimately rejected and final termination orders were issued.Telangana travel guide

The DME orders invoked the Telangana Leave Rules of 1933 and Subordinate Service Rules of 1996, stating that the absentee doctors are ‘deemed to have resigned’ due to their prolonged absence from duty.

The crackdown spans across multiple medical specialties and affects both prestigious teaching hospitals in Hyderabad and several District Government Medical Colleges.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department was the most heavily impacted, with 28 doctors removed from service. Other departments that saw significant terminations include Anaesthesia with 11 doctors, General Medicine with 11 doctors, and General Surgery with 8 doctors. Faculty members from specialised fields such as Radiology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, and Cardiology were also among those terminated.

In Hyderabad and Secunderabad, premier institutions like Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College, and Niloufer Hospital lost several faculty members. The impact was equally severe in urban and rural areas of districts.
