New Delhi, Oct. 14: The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), celebrated World Standards Day 2026 at Manak Hall in New Delhi. The event highlighted India’s growing role in global telecommunications standardisation and its commitment to technological self-reliance.
Senior TEC officers attended the programme, which showcased the organisation’s work in developing telecom standards and contributing to international bodies, including the International Telecommunication Union’s Standardization Sector (ITU-T).
TEC Reports Progress in Telecom Standardisation
Under the Telecommunications (Framework to Notify Standards, Conformity Assessment and Certification) Rules, 2025, TEC develops standards, recognises Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) and issues certificates.
TEC has released 596 standards across multiple technology domains. These include essential requirements, generic requirements, test guides and TEC standard documents. The organisation has also designated 82 CABs and issued more than 5,400 certificates to date.
During the event, TEC Senior Deputy Director General and Head Syed Tausif Abbas praised the efforts of officers representing India in international standardisation forums. He highlighted their leadership roles across various ITU-T Study Groups.
TEC develops standards for telecommunications equipment, services and networks in India. Its standards aim to protect consumer interests while supporting network security, interoperability and quality of service.
The organisation also works to align India’s digital ecosystem with global benchmarks, strengthening the country’s participation in international technology development and standardisation.
