Hyderabad: In a shocking Kotagiri incident, a son allegedly burned his mother alive in Nizamabad district. The incident took place at the Kotagiri mandal headquarters on Saturday. Police have taken the accused into custody. They have also begun an investigation into the case.
According to initial details, the elderly woman, identified as Bhumavva, was a resident of Kotagiri. Her son had reportedly become addicted to alcohol in recent months. He used to return home drunk and create disturbances every day. As a result, frequent quarrels took place in the house.
Kotagiri Incident Linked To Alcohol Addiction
On Saturday, the accused again came home in an inebriated state. He allegedly demanded money from his mother to buy alcohol. However, when she refused, an argument broke out between them. In a fit of anger, he allegedly decided to kill her.
Without showing any mercy, he reportedly placed old clothes on her and set them on fire inside the house. Meanwhile, Bhumavva screamed for help as the flames spread rapidly. However, he did not attempt to save her and stood watching. Due to the intense flames, she died on the spot.
Police Investigation Underway In Nizamabad
After receiving information, Kotagiri police rushed to the scene. They took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem. Later, they detained the accused son.
Meanwhile, police are probing whether he committed the act under the influence of alcohol alone. They are also examining if any other reasons led to the crime. The investigation is currently underway.
The Kotagiri incident has shocked local residents. However, police officials have not disclosed further details as the probe continues.
