Hyderabad CP Warns Of PD Act Against Financiers

Hyderabad: Hyderabad CP VC Sajjanar warned private financiers of strict action under the PD Act if they harass borrowers and force them to sell properties to clear high interest loans. He issued the warning on February 28 while addressing complaints received during an official interaction.

The Hyderabad CP said that money lending without a licence is a crime. He made it clear that the police will not tolerate harassment or use of force to collect exorbitant interest. “Money lending without a licence is a crime. If you harass people or use force to collect exorbitant interest, we will not spare you. We will book strict cases and may invoke PD Act,” warned Hyderabad CP, VC Sajjanar.

Meanwhile, he said several people approached him during his visit to the Old City for the ‘Meet Your CP’ programme. They complained about harassment by private financiers. Therefore, he urged victims to seek help without fear. “If you are facing any harassment, don’t be scared. Call 100 or visit the nearest police station immediately,” Sajjanar advised.

In addition, the Commissioner also warned tenants who harass landlords, especially senior citizens. He said some tenants are targeting elderly couples. They are threatening landlords by claiming ownership and attempting land grabbing. He clarified that such actions go beyond civil disputes. “Some tenants are specifically targeting elderly couples and threatening landlords by claiming ownership and attempting land grabbing.If you believe this is merely a civil dispute, you are mistaken.

The moment you intimidate a landlord or attempt to usurp their property, it becomes a serious criminal offence,” said Sajjanar, warning of strict action against anyone who tries to occupy property.

Therefore, the Hyderabad CP reiterated that the police will take firm steps against illegal money lending and property related intimidation. He stressed that strict cases will be booked wherever required.
