The sculpture is carved from monolithic black granite stone. It reflects the craftsmanship of skilled sculptors. The idol is said to be nearly five feet tall. Most parts of the statue remain intact. However, the nose and fingers are partially damaged. Locals alleged that fortune hunters may have caused the damage.

Locals first spotted idol three years ago

According to villagers, they first noticed the head portion of the idol in the sand three years ago. At that time, water in the stream had receded. However, no one attempted to remove it. Therefore, the statue remained buried in the sand for years.

Recently, the water level in the Peddavagu stream dropped again. As a result, the statue surfaced once more. Soon after, videos of the idol in the sand went viral on social media. Then, a man from Hyderabad visited the spot. With the help of residents from Chintakani and Jaggaiah Palli villages, he pulled the statue out of the stream.

Villagers debate temple plans

After the Ancient Vishnu Statue was brought out, a discussion began among nearby villagers. Residents of Jaggaiah Palli insisted that they would take the statue to their village. Meanwhile, a farmer from Madaram village offered to donate land for building a temple locally, as the idol was found near his field.

Though officials have not yet established the exact origin of the statue, many believe it belongs to the Kakatiya era. Some locals also feel that it could be a Chennakesava Swamy statue, based on the carvings of the hands, crown and decorations.

However, the Archaeological Department has not yet conducted a scientific examination. Authorities are expected to study the idol and submit a report. Until then, the Ancient Vishnu Statue continues to draw attention and devotion from people in the region.
